Deerfield Valley WCDC Headquarters

Senator Dick Sears cut the ribbon at the opening of the Deerfield Valley Democratic Headquarters in Wilmington, the first such office to be inaugurated in the district within living memory. Surrounded by an enthusiastic crowd of more than 30 supporters, the moment was as auspicious as it was historic. Mirroring the groundswell of Democratic organizing throughout the country, as well as within the state, Windham County now boasts a record three Democratic Headquarters.

Senator Bob Hartwell, Representatives Ann Manwaring and John Moran also addressed the gathering, as did James Valente from the Tom Costello campaign. Vanda Warner, Chair of the Whitingham Democratic Town Committee, read a letter aloud from Gaye Symington congratulating the assembled supporters on the historic opening of the Deerfield Valley Headquarters. Four Democratic nominees for Justice of the Peace also spoke briefly.

Light refreshments and energized discussions followed the formal remarks. Everyone agreed that the afternoon had been a wonderful success. Numerous drop-ins stopped by to purchase Obama bumper stickers and buttons, many of whom were from out-of-state. (The DVDHQ raised over $100 in less than three hours time, incidentally, due largely to the Obama sales.)

The new DVDHQ will be open seven days a week. Anyone interested in helping staff the HQ can call either Marshall Brooks or Stephanie Greene at 464-5584 to volunteer OR for more information (e-mail: artsend@sover.net). DVDHQ is located at 5 E. Main St., Wilmington, very near the intersection of Routes 9 & 100.
