Campaigning to be a Delegate for Hillary Clinton
My first exposure to the Vermont Democratic Party was in the fall of 1994 when I was eleven years old. After school I use to stop by the democratic campaign office on Flat Street in Brattleboro to help make signs, stuff envelopes, and help out in anyway that I could. Although I did not quite understand the difference between Democrats and Republicans, the experience helped foster in me a strong commitment to civic engagement, an interest in politics, and a foundation with the Democratic Party.
Since that time I continued to develop my interest in the democratic process by serving as an executive page to Governor Howard Dean, working on a number of local legislative campaigns, and interning for the Senate Judiciary Committee with Senator Patrick Leahy. In 2004 I had a wonderful opportunity to volunteer at the Democratic National Convention in Boston, Massachusetts. Though this experience I learned what an important and exciting process the National Convention is.
My interest in politics also carried over into my academic pursuits. I attended Union College in Schenectady, New York and graduated in 2006 with an honors degree Political Science and authored an honors thesis examining presidential power. I currently attend the University of Miami School of Law and was recently elected Editor in Chief of the Miami Law Review for the 2008-2009 academic year.
I want to be a delegate to the National Convention to advocate for issues that are important to my generation. The greatest fears of today will be the greatest challenges my generation has to confront in tomorrow’s world. We need a voice in today’s discussion to insure that we are ready to confront the realities of global warming, energy dependency, religious extremism, and a national economy and educational system that continues to be surpassed by other nations. It is important for my generation to be actively involved in the democratic process and this year’s National Convention is a great opportunity to do just that.
I look forward to speaking with you and look forward to seeing you at the State Convention in May.
Please feel free to call or email me if you have any questions – I would be interested in hearing from you.
